We are planning for Bag the Bruck 2018 - the whole school gets involved every year to help clean up our local environment. We will be doing our bit in week 1 and 2 of Term 4 at The Peedie Sea, Muddisdale and at Scapa beach.

Fairtrade Fortnight week 2
This week we had an assembly to share our role play which explains all about how bananas are produced and where they come from. We heard from 'Rosa' and Miguel' from Panama who told us how FairTrade helps families pay for all the things they need like school and medicines.
The Fair Trade choc chip cookies have been selling hot cakes cookies!

Please Pick Up your Pieces in the playground!
Please don't drop your snack litter in the playground!
If it isn't picked up it will get blown across to the Peedie Sea, and beyond, where it will damage the environment. Crisp packets don't decompose but can be eaten by animals that mistake them for food.
This is what we picked up in 10 minutes after one playtime this week!
Earth Hour 2018
Earth Hour is Saturday 24th March at 8.30pm in the UK. We have Earth Hour in school on the Friday before, usually from 11.30 to 12.30 when we switch off lights and any other electrical equipment we are not using. We do this so that we can think about how much electricity and energy we use and its impact on the environment.

Fair Trade Fortnight week 1
This is week one of Fair Trade Fortnight. At Glaitness each year we use Fair Trade Fortnight to learn about how our decisions about the food we buy and the clothes we wear can make the world a fairer place for farmers and their families around the world.
Pablo the Super Banana can explain what Fair Trade is and how it means people around the world are paid enough to look after their families.
We have made up some activity and game packs for classes to learn more about Fair Trade.
Next week we will be selling Fair Trade Choc Chip cookies at the snack shack all week (or until they run out!).

Global Goals at Glaitness
Each year at Glaitness we do some activities for Fair Trade Fortnight and Bag the Bruck. These events mean we are working towards the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Which goals do you think we are working towards with Fair Trade?
Our group is going to share some activities with the whole school which each class can use to learn about Fair Trade. We have decided to have an assembly and make posters. We will sell cookies and maybe give stickers to people who buy fair trade choc chip cookies during fair trade fortnight.
Have a look at the videos on the symbaloo on the side bar to find out more about Fair Trade.
